Legend:
Devil's Island was originally called Rous' Island, later to Wood Island, and later it was changed again to Deville's Island, which became anglicized to "Devil's Island". Devils Island is the location of a famous local legend. One of the residents of the island had a party with some friends and after some drinking he went outside for a moment and returned very upset, stating he had seen the devil in the form of a halibut that came from the water to speak to him. The next day he was found dead in his boat and some say there were prints of cloven hooves in the sand of the island beach. In the only remaining house on the island some people say they see lights coming from the windows at times.
